Automatic listing in Findex.co.uk and oneEntry.net: good thing / bad thing?
What’s your view – leave a voicemail on 01752 548771 and we’ll feature it on The Mu Show.
We’d be interested to know your views.
One issue is that you and I have no control over the initial, automatic listing these people construct (by scraping your website).
If you don’t like it, you’re encouraged to invest your time changing it. Interesting strategy but not one that motivates me. Because I’m highly critical of the value of online directories, I’m more likely to want to get the listing removed. But that’s me.
How about you? Do you think the benefits outweigh the… er… what’s the opposite of a benefit, btw? You know what I mean. Let us know what you think on 01752 548771. And if you’re Findex.co.uk or oneEntry.net we’d be happy to hear from you too.

how can it be evil?
Hi Josh, thanks for the question. How can it be evil? Well, it was kind of tongue-in-cheek…
Pre-loading databases is all the rage and I got an email from a new venture telling me that I’d been added and advising me that unless I wanted my listing to look incomplete, I’d better login and do some work on my profile.
Evil? No, but definitely uninvited – and somewhat manipulative.
How about you, Josh. What’s your take?
i find it to be GOOD! there is no cost for the companies listing…only exposure to potential customers. and in this bad market how can this be a bad thing? when yahoo charges $300 per year per listing we should get more places to do so for free! make the giants lower their prices!
oneEntry marketing team have emailed me requesting feedback and I’ve emailed them with it.
In reply to Josh’s point, for me there is a cost – my time and my data and it’s not free.
What would motivate me to give time and data is a demonstrable, testable benefit in return, simple as that.
I’m impressed with the watchfulness of the marketing team, however. I’ll read more of the blurb and post again with findings.
The point still remains. There is still an investment in time and data and I’ve not seen anything to convince me to invest….yet.
Will post more.
Hi,
I think OneEntry.net is little more than a sophisticated scam. I wasted a lot of time with them too. It was only when I got deeper into their site that I realised it’s like one of those up front fee scams, yes they only charge you for ‘leads’ sent but they want you to pre-load your account with lots of $$, nice one I say!
I asked them to remove all my details and close my account and I got a rude reply.
I have been added to 2 directories but have since moved from the address as listed. I have worked from home for many years and the new owners of my previous home are getting fed up with being bothered with enquiries. I have tried to get the entries removed to no avail. Do you have any advice? Thanks. The INCORRECT listings are:

Hi Lesley. I don’t know what you’ve tried in order to get these listings removed, but I do know that with Free Index you should be able to log in and amend your details.
If neither of these will answer your emails or phone queries (assuming they have those forms of contact details) then you could try mentioning them in social media – such as Twitter or Facebook or blog about them (with their names at the start of your posts). Their ‘watchers’ may pick up your beef with them and help out. Then again, they may not.
Hope that’s helpful.
