Sam Deeks: deliberate reputation attack Part 2

www.samdeeks.co.uk gets parked

So, the person who registered www.samdeeks.co.uk has now parked it on www.sedoparking.com.  This is a place where you can park a domain you’ve bought until you want to develop or sell it – and try to let it earn you money.

Update: I’m pleased to announce that we have resolved this issue with the result that this domain name will now be transferred back to my control.  Thank you to those involved.

  1. Good result. The best thing that could have happened.

For sure. I think that most people get it that if they deliberately set out to attack someone,it will reflect badly on them.

Part of my response was to create these posts directly referring to the situation in order to put the attack into context. That made it easy for anyone to work out who was who and what was what.

Some people say ‘don’t respond’ to online reputation attacks. I think that advice might have made sense in the days of print or newsreel where the damage was temporary and reached only as far as the medium reached. These days, – thanks to Google – it’s permanent and global, so I believe that more often than not, you do need to make a response. The issue is really about whether or not you can do it cleanly and constructively without doing further damage.

One thing that gets ‘underplayed’ in reputation management (I wonder why lols) is that it really, really helps to keep your act clean. Having nothing to hide or defend makes reputation management one hell of a lot easier :-)

Not only had I nothing to hide, but my motivation for what I did was good and honest. If there’s one thing that will make it easier to manage your reputation (and the rest of your life, btw) it’s that!
